Throwing Shade

Throwing Shade is a rising London-based producer, DJ and NTS Radio presenter.

Dazed and Confused magazine have hailed her as "London's new alt-pop hope" and she has been receiving similarly positive accolades throughout the music press, by the likes of Mixmag, Dummy, Fact, The Guardian, NME and The Fader. Her recent live session and interview on BBC Radio 1 showcased Throwing Shade as a key artist to watch on London's emerging scene of new electronic music

Her productions are often described as "cosmic r&b" and "digital soul". Drawing in iridescent strains of popular music - from African and Asian modes, to the grime-y axis of London's contemporary sound narrative - Throwing Shade creates a diverse and abstract sound patchwork, intangibly borne in the here-and-now.

October 2013 saw her debut release - ‘Mystic Places' - on Kassem Mosse's Ominira imprint. In May 2014 she released the '19 Jewels' EP on No Pain In Pop, and followed up with another release (‘Chancer / Blanx') on the dancefloor label Happy Skull. In November 2014 she was commissioned by the Tate Britain gallery to produce a piece of music for one of the Turner Prize artists. Her latest EP, ‘Fate Xclusive' was released via No Pain In Pop on 25 May 2015.

Throwing Shade also presents a monthly show on NTS Radio - a painstakingly researched showcase of weird and wonderful music from across the globe, which reflects her undergraduate studies in Ethnomusicology.
