White Magic

WHITE MAGIC is the songwriting and vocal lyricism of Mira Billotte engaged by talented musicians, 'Sleepy' Doug Shaw on guitar, Tim Koh on bass and guitar, Jesse Lee on drums and Shahzad Ismaily guitar and percussion, for this live performance at ATP 2007 Dirty Three.

They will be performing songs from Dat Rosa Mel Apibus (DragCity), WHITE MAGIC’s first debut full length album, following the release of critically acclaimed 6 song debut “Through the Sun Door”. 'Dat Rosa Mel Apibus' is an elaborate evolution from the first release. It is a journey which sets forth into an untamed musical landscape, finding the familiar in unusual streams of new sound - a new music. A music that knows the past, but does not repeat it. Torch songs ride into dark ragas and devotional dub with prophetic resonance. Influences of African and tropical guitar rise and reel through the harmony. Dat Rosa Mel Apibus, translated as 'The Rose gives Honey to the Bees' speaks of the maze of life and its turns of darkness and light.

Mira Billotte played in Quix*o*tic before forming WHITE MAGIC. Her voice has been compared to Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Grace Slick, Karen Dalton, and Nico among others. White Magic has toured with the likes of Sonic Youth, Will Oldham, Joanna Newsom, Six Organs of Admittance, Ghost, Animal Collective, Magic Markers and Fiery Furnaces, among others names.
