Blitzen Trapper and Fleet Foxes, April 6, 9 p.m. at Schubas
Talk about blog-bait past and present. Portland-based outfit Blitzen Trapper made music bloggers across the web salvate last year with their rockin’ third album Wild Mountain Nation, a catchy guitar-fueled affair displaying flashes of country-twang and Southern rock bombast. The online world still loves them some Blitzen Trapper, but 2008’s hot new country-sih act is Fleet Foxes, a band resembling an odd combination of My Morning Jacket and Grizzly Bear. The bloggers are right on both acts, though, so believe the hype. Tickets cost $12, but they are sold out. Must be a lot of bloggers out there.
Best of the Rest
Vampire Weekend, April 6, 9 p.m. at Metro
Speaking of buzzed about acts…..Vampire Weekend! This one is sold out, big shock, huh?
Tapes N Tapes, April 11, 9 p.m. at Metro
OK, this week’s post now has a theme going of “buzzed about bands” going. Tapes N Tapes took the (indie) world by storm back in 2006 with their brand of adventerous guitar-focused rock, becoming one of the “talked about bands” of the year. They also became the focus of this funny Human Giant sketch. These guys are back with their new album Walk it Off, out this week, and I bet you can hear a lot of cuts from that album this Friday. Tickets cost $16.
Caribou and Fuck Buttons, April 11, 7 and 10 p.m. at Empty Bottle
We’ve already talked about Caribou’s crazy good live act before, so lets focus on opener and fellow hyped-group Fuck Buttons. This British duo with the NSFW name makes suprisingly melodic noise music, though just because they have a few instances of “pop” in their songs, it still is loud noise. I don’t know how exciting watching two guys man computers and small keyboards actually is, but the music will be different (by that, I mean great). Tickets cost $12. Oh, and be 21 or older.
Avoid at all Costs
Counting Crows, April 10, 7:30 at Riviera
Sorry, but I will be forever against Counting Crows because of this song and video. Sorry, that is just how I am, enjoy it though!
