Faun Fables

FAUN FABLES, the musical vehicle of Dawn McCarthy and frequent co-pilot Nils Frykdahl of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, has been generating a unique blend of music and theater since 1998.

After coming of age musically in NYC, Dawn left it in 1997 to begin life as a solo artist, traveling abroad with many a musical idea in her head. Over the course of nine years, she moved to California, experimented in music and theater, toured incessantly and made four records all released or re-released on Drag City Records- Early Song, Mother Twilight, Family Album and The Transit Rider- picking up much critical momentum and gathering a devoted and eclectic following along the way. The recent release, The Transit Rider- a fascination of transcience, transport and the modern pace- was developed into a conceptual song cycle and theater show, touring North America in 2006. Last winter Dawn made a record with Will Oldham (Bonnie 'Prince' Billy / The Letting Go) released to much critical acclaim on Drag City in September 2006. "Musically and theatrically versatile, FAUN FABLES can do whatever they want, and that's what they do; their sound is invariably original, slightly mystical and timeless with a dramatic thrust impossible to categorize." -Times Standard
