White Noise
White Noise is the pioneering name in the British electronic music scene going right back to the late 1960's.
The group formed at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop and the debut album as "The White Noise" on Island Records, "An Electric Storm", has sold hundreds of thousands of copies and has never been out of print since 1968.
The latest re-issue by the world's largest record company Universal took place in 2008, accompanied by major features in magazines like The Wire. Tracks from "An Electric Storm" like "Firebird" and the incredibly spooky "The Visitation", now being played in a 13-minute techno dance remix version, are regularly quoted by musicians like David Bowie and Jean-Jacques Burnel of The Stranglers as major influences on their music.
White Noise music was originally not performable live since it was created using thousands of tape edits, and later by the most sophisticated synthesizer and sound sampling equipment available. Now with the latest generations of laptop technology it's become possible for the first time to give live performances, and recent shows in central London, in Germany, and in Paris have getting incredible audience responses.
The current lineup includes founder David Vorhaus, and music journalist Mark Jenkins who has written for Melody Maker and NME and published the definite book on analog synthesizers, now available worldwide through Amazon.
