Follakzoid Mini Interview (playing our End Of An Era Part 2 in November!)

Friday 4th October, 2013

This November we will be putting on two final UK holiday camp festivals in Camber Sands, UK under the banner The End Of An Era. The first weekend is sold out, with tickets available now for Weekend 2 curated by ATP & Loop. Tickets and more info on the event are available now from this link. See below for another in a series of mini interviews with bands playing the event. This time Föllakzoid from Chile have given us their answers.

Name of Artist: Föllakzoid

Hometown: Santiago, Chile.

Year Formed: 2007

Bio:

Föllakzoid began in Santiago, Chile from what they describe as the result of, “a product of a trance experience between friends, sort of a soul abduction in which they’ve been living since 2008.” The band is made up of multi-faceted artists: Juan Pablo (bass, vocals) is a producer of the Sangre Fresca Music Festival in Santiago, Diego (drums) is a photograher, and Domingo (guitar) is also a filmmaker who just premiered his first feature length movie “Partir to Live”. They believe that there is some sort of gravitational force that makes South America able to dialogue directly with other places, times, and dimensions. The band have all known each other from childhood in Santiago. They take their times recording albums, generally allowing two years in between perfecting their songs with their goal being to make something organic, that breaths on it’s own, which integrates into part of a separate, higher and bigger living organism.

This album shows the band growing an enormous amount as songwriters, focusing on more developed songs and structures. Throughout these five songs, Föllakzoid craft one of the finest kraut-rock record in years. Let them take you on a serpentine journey through their mystical Chilean land. Föllakzoid will be making their Us touring debut this spring.

Do your best to describe your sound in one sentence:

Disappear in a cosmic voyage of sound.

What are the most recent activities of your band?

We  finished our first North American tour playing our latest album II (Sacred Bones records) opening for Psychic Ills in over 16 citys including L.A, Sn Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver, Chicago, tx-SXSW, NY.

We also are putting out two 12” splits:

- A 12” remix album of two with our home label BYM Records in Santiago, featuring a rmx of “trees” by Moon Duo , and a rmw of “9” by Psychic Ills

- A12” split album feat a new Föllakzoid song on one side, and a new Cave (band from chicago) song.

How excited are you to play this event?

Stoked!

How do you feel about being asked to play the last ever ATP holiday camp event?

Honored!

Do you have a connection with the curators / an idea why you were chosen to play?

LOOP is a great band. I guess we are kind of continuing what that generation started a while ago, but have no direct conection with the curators.

Which of your releases do you feel ATP attendees should check out first?

Our latest album II which you can listen at  www.follakzoid.bandcamp.com and also check out the remix version of the album made by Psychic Ills and Moon Duo.

Is there one of your tracks you think specifically represents you best?

I think they are all pretty representative, but I would encourage people to listen the whole album instead of only one song to see what happens.

Are there any other currently confirmed bands you're excited about seeing?

LEGENDARY Michael Rother, Loop & Om.

If you were curating, name three bands you'd want to play your event...

Psychic ills
Moon Duo
Jozef van Wissem

also Psychic Paramount and Teeth Mountain, if they are still playing.

And what's the best gig you've seen in the last year?

Om during full moon-rise, Psychic Ills in L.A, and Jozef Van Wissem with Jim Jarmusch in manhattan. Pharmakon in ny was sick too.

What have your previous experiences at ATP been like? Any favourite memories?

Never been to one, but lookin forward to it!
