Friday 5th April, 2013

North America will be playing ATP curated by TV On The Radio this May - on sale now. You can grab two free downloads from the band on our Soundcloud here! Check out a mini interview with the band below...

Name Of Artist: North America

Hometown: Albuquerque New Mexico

Year Formed: 2009

Bio:

Twin brothers Josh and Jesse Hasko apply their near psychic proclivities to create spatial and hauntingly psychedelic songs that embody and transcend typical genres.

Inspired by the scorching desert landscape, altered states, and the nightmare of post-modern America, North America plays a tactile and hypnotic rock with chiaroscuro qualities in a world that is their own.  Crystalline guitar lines and feverish drum beats synthesize into unpredictable territories, sometimes even to the brothers.

The New York natives recorded their latest album Blown Out (2011) in a New Mexican adobe, channeling the extraterrestrial forces and spirit energies that they smudged out and summoned at the same time.

While North America's music can be intense, beautiful, and danceable; (the duo has been described as Desert Crystal Psych Rock, Dance Punk, Face Melt?, among everything else) each song is a relatable emotional story that embraces darkness, hypocrisy, and ultimately; joy.

North America will be performing live on 1.3333% of planet Earth in 2013.

Do your best to describe the sound of your band in one sentence:

Desert crystal jams of pure white light

What are the most recent activities of your band?

After touring for nearly all of '12 we are back in the desert writing new songs, helping friends with some art exhibits, exercising to workout videos, dipping in hot springs, looking for tarantulas (Jesse found one) and readying material for our next album.

How excited are you to play this event?

We're very much looking forward to it! ATP has been a good idea since it was an idea to be thought.

Do you have a connection with TV On The Radio / an idea why you were chosen to play?

This feels like a game show! Yeah! We were introduced to Kyp through a mutual friend when we were living in Brooklyn and he invited  us to play some shows with his other band Rain Machine. We made babies dance on the beach, so maybe that had something to do with it? That, and we owned tvontheradio.com in 1994 and we met through the lawsuit.

Which of your releases do you feel ATP attendees should check out first?

Blown Out is a good one. Start fresh, work backwards

Is there one of your tracks you think specifically represents you best?

"Wet Dream" might encompass the vibes

Are there any other currently confirmed bands you're excited about seeing?

I'd like to see Shabbazz Palaces again, they have great brains. And I owe them 15 bucks for their album I downloaded. There's a lot. We're going to try to see everyones show, even though that's technically impossible, but there's two of us. And we can compare notes.

If you were curating, name three bands you'd want to play your event...

CocoRosie
Pillars and Tongues
Explode Into Colors (reunion!)

If you could pick one record release in the last year which would you recommend?

Ah! tough question. Maybe  Nootropics - Lower Dens.  Such good late night summer jams.

What have your previous experiences at ATP been like? Any favourite memories?

Yeah, Jesse was playing drums in A Hawk and A Hacksaw the last time they were invited to the Asbury Park ATP. So much happened, but bowling down the street at this vegan, bar/bowling alley kinda ruled.
