Mini interview with Laetitia Sadier (ex-Stereolab) on playing Deerhunter's ATP next month (+ music added to our Soundcloud)

Wednesday 15th May, 2013

Next month from the 21st-23rd June, Deerhunter will curate and headline the last ever UK Holiday Camp ATP festival at Camber Sands, alongside many other amazing acts such as The Breeders performing Last Splash, Tom Tom Club, Steve Reich and many many more. Tickets are available now from this link.

Also performing will be Laetitia Sadier, formerly of Stereolab, who last year released a solo album named Silencio. You can hear four tracks from it on our Soundcloud playlist for the event, and below you can check out a small chat we had with Laetitia about playing the event...

Name Of Artist:

Lætitia Sadier Trio Sauvage

Hometown:

London

Year Formed:

2012

Do your best to describe the sound of your band in one sentence:

Sounds like somewhere between Earth and Heaven...

What are the most recent activities of your band?

We have just finished playing around Europe for 3 weeks. Prior to this tour we did another, around the USA for 5 weeks.

How excited are you to play this event?

Are you fishing for compliments?? Of course people who know how fun and musically compelling ATP can be are very VERY excited to play this event. That goes for the Lætitia Sadier Trio Sauvage of a Band.

Do you have a connection with Deerhunter / an idea why you were chosen to play?

Indeed, there is a connection but I would say it is through the friendship Bradford and I have shared for a good amount of years now. There is also a strong musical bond, more specifically with his Atlas Sound work; we are cousins of a cosmic sort. Deerhunter I have yet to discover...

Which of your releases do you feel ATP attendees should check out first?

Monade's 1st LP "Socialisme ou Barbarie", Lætitia Sadier's "The Trip", and "Silencio".

Is there one of your tracks you think specifically represents you best?

The Swim, on Socialism ou Barbarie.

Are there any other currently confirmed bands you're excited about seeing?

Tom Tom Club and Black Lips.

If you were curating, name three bands you'd want to play your event...

Holden, Jens Bosteen, Aquaserge, Emma Pollock, Beirut, Beck, Basil Kirchin, Bernard Parmagiani, Mouse on Mars, Caetano Veloso, I'd ask Cibo Mato to reform, Connan Mokasin, Eddy Crampes, SuperBravo, Erkin Koray, Giorgio Tuma, Hot Chip, Hyperclean, Hyperclean, Hyperclean, Junior Electronic, Katrine, Richard Swift, Midget, Atta Kak, Molly Nilson, The Orca Team, Azita, Dead Rider, Angil, The Severed Limbs, Lisbonne, Isotope, The Soft Pack and many more! Sorry got carried away...

If you could pick one record release in the last year which would you recommend?

A Room Without Corners by Superbravo.

What have your previous experiences at ATP been like? Any favourite memories?

I really enjoyed my last experience a ATP curated by Belle and Sebastien. Seeing Cynthia Plaster Caster go through bits of her biography relating her stories of casting such and such rock star, with the precision of a scientist was very entertaining. I liked the fact that there is so much good things to do you kind of get into a near panic as to where to go next; movies? mini golf? Great band? yoga? Swim? or walk by the sea?
