The New Pornographers
The New Pornographers formed in 1997, almost immediately recorded the classic "Letter From An Occupant," and it was on. Their four full-lengths (as well as numerous solo ventures from A.C. Newman, Neko Case, Dan Bejar, Todd Fancey, Kathryn Calder, and not to mention the the numerous films directed by Blaine Thurier) received wild critical and public acclaim, and they continue to enjoy bigger (and taller and smarter) audiences.
Bringing their acclaimed new album “Together” to life onstage will be A.C. Newman, Neko Case, Kurt Dahle, Todd Fancey, Kathryn Calder, John Collins and Blaine Thurier – the latest exciting iteration of their ever-evolving lineup.
Moving in a tangent from their previous work, yet incorporating all of the songwriting nous and indelible performances that marked previous outings “Mass Romantic”, “Electric Version”, “Twin Cinema” and “Challengers”, “Together” is just a bit more intimate, evoking the chamber pop of albums like Big Star’s “Sister Lovers” to a degree as yet unexplored by the band.
To try and comprehensively list the individual and collective achievements of THE NEW PORNOGRAPHERS would be an exercise in folly – needless to say, with mountains of accolades, consistent showings in year-end critics’ polls in pretty much every year of the past decade, and a deserved reputation as one of the most vital acts in contemporary rock’n’roll, rarely has the much-overused term ‘supergroup’ been so accurate or well earned by any band.
